Side effects & safety

Oral minoxidil is FDA-approved for blood pressure, not hair loss, so this use is off-label. The most common side effect is extra hair on the face or body. Less often, it causes lightheadedness, swelling or a faster heartbeat, so tell your clinician about any heart condition or blood pressure medicine, and report swelling, chest pain or fainting right away. Some shedding in the first weeks can happen. Give it 6 to 12 months before judging results. Not for anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.
