Semaglutide Injection: illustrative photo of a pharmacy injection vial
Semaglutide Injection at a glance: what it does and how you use it. Semaglutide mimics GLP-1, a hormone your gut makes after eating. It can help you feel full sooner and stay satisfied longer, and it slows how quickly your stomach empties. Your clinician starts at a low dose and increases it slowly. One small injection under the skin, once a week, on the same day each week. You'll get step-by-step instructions, and your care team is there the first time.

Side effects & safety
The most common side effects are nausea, constipation, diarrhea and feeling less hungry, usually in the first weeks or after a dose increase. It isn't right for everyone, including anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2, or who is pregnant or planning pregnancy. Your clinician reviews your full history before prescribing.

Based on published research and prescribing information: Wegovy® prescribing information (FDA) · FDA: concerns with unapproved GLP-1 drugs. Your clinician reviews your personal risks before prescribing.

Nausea support

Nausea is the most common side effect when you start or raise a GLP-1 dose, and for most women it eases with time. Small changes help first: smaller meals, eating slowly, stopping before you're full, and going easy on greasy food.

If nausea still gets in the way, your clinician may prescribe generic ondansetron (Zofran), an anti-nausea tablet. It blocks the serotonin signals that trigger nausea. It's FDA-approved for nausea from chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, so using it for GLP-1 nausea is an off-label use your clinician will talk through with you. It can cause headache and constipation, and it isn't right for everyone, including people with certain heart rhythm problems.
